This watch just screams: “Habibi, come to Dubai!”
This isn’t the first reference 18388 we’ve had, but it certainly is the first Day-Date in this amazing configuration. The iconic 36 mm 18k yellow gold case comes with a special reference number, 18388, which indicates it has diamond set lugs and bezel. If that weren’t enough, even the iconic 18k yellow-gold President bracelet has original set diamonds on all centre links!
Throughout the years, Rolex offered a variety of special and extraordinary dial options; especially on their flagship model: the Day-Date. One segment consisted of dials made out of natural materials: hard stone, wood or nacre. It was not a common thing for somebody to go for one of the most expensive models and subsequently even upgrade it with an unusual dial, making such a configuration a rarity on its own. Within the different variaties, there are less rare and ultra rare possibilities. The watch we have today undoubtedly belongs to the latter.
The green chalcedony variety is referred to as ‘Jasper’. There are subcategories of this appealing mineral and the most coveted one has to be the Heliotrope, often called “Bloodstone” due to the red speckles caused by Hematite inclusions. The result is a unique and inspiring canvas of complementary colors. This exceptional variant, however, features applied factory-set diamond indices in round setting, often referred to as ‘Pinball’. Together with the gold hands and gold applied Rolex coronet the dial takes on a warmer green tint and adds a gold hue on this already mesmerizing green dial.
As the 18338 is a sub-reference of the 182xx-series Day-Dates, it houses the caliber 3155 automatic movement with a double-quickset function for the independent adjustment of the day, date, and time. This watch is in an excellent condition with a razor sharp case and tight bracelet. She dates back to 1994 and considering the Arabic date and day disc we can only stand back and applaud the Sjeik whom configured this beauty back in the day.
